the boy with the incredible brain

savant syndrome is a situation where a person with developmental disabilities has some super expertise ability power. The popular example of the syndrome can be found in the movie "rainman" with dustan hoffman and tom cruise(great flick). the wikipedia link gives an alright explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savant_syndrome
the idea that within us perhaps there is some key to a higher brain function that is only brought out in isolated cases of mental disability is soemthing that could change the science of the brain, how we learn, and maybe even our understanding of evolutionary biology. these savants hold some sort of weird key to latent super powers in all of us. if the brain has the ability to produce these patterns in people with other disabilities...whats stopping someone with a perfectly functioning brain from being able to recreate these abilities?. all very interesting and obviously i dont know the science or psychology behind it all but it does bring up very real questions. so heres a link to an interesting list of famous savants:

this documentary is amazing. a must watch. kinda balks some of the things about developmental disabilities that i just stated.
